Healthy Start is a government scheme that enables families to apply for a pre-paid care so they can buy fresh fruit, vegetables and milk. People are eligible if they are:

• 10 weeks+ pregnant
• have at least one child under four years old
• Receiving benefits such as 
  • Child Tax Credit
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Pension Credit (which includes the child addition)
  • Universal Credit (if the family’s take-home pay is £408 or less per month from employment)

The scheme offers £4.25 during each week of pregnancy (from the 10th week) and for children between one and four years old, or £8.50 each week for children from birth to one year old.
